Double Negalitres for Schools Programme – 20th to 22nd July 2023

22 JULY 2023 – This week marks two education session under the Negalitres for Schools Programme conducted by Water Watch Penang.

The first education session was conducted at SK St. Mark on the 20th July 2023, attended by a total of 33 students from Standard 6 together with 3 teachers, while the second education session was conducted at SMK Datuk Hj. Mohd. Nor Ahmad on the 22nd July 2023 attended by a total number of 42 students and 3 teachers from the Eco Team.

As usual, WWP Executive Manager Dr Hong Chern Wern commenced the talk by introducing WWP’s history, goals, and past activities. He also presented some water facts, the global, national and local water crisis, water conservation strategies, and other water-related issues.

Salcon Water Watch Penang Training of Trainers: Smart Water Programme – 15th July 2023, Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara

15th July 2023: Water Watch Penang, in collaboration with Salcon Berhad, conducted the first Training of Trainers program of the year for teachers and educators at Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara. The program was attended by a total of 14 teachers and 2 undergraduates from various institutions: SMK (P) Taman Petaling (8 participants), SMK Puteri Titiwangsa (1 participant), Chong Hwa Independent High School (3 participants), SMK (L) Methodist Sentul (1 participant), SMK Seri Titiwangsa (1 participant), and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) (2 participants).

Aquasave Awareness Education Programme with Furutec Electrical Sdn. Bhd.

On July 4, 2023, Water Watch Penang organized yet another Aquasave Awareness Education Programme for Furutec Electrical Sdn. Bhd. A total of 16 employees actively participated in the program, which took place from 10:00 am to 11:30 am.

The primary objective of the talk was to enhance the understanding of the company’s staff and empower them to adopt water-saving practices in their daily activities, going beyond the mere achievement of the Penang Green Office Certification. Additionally, the talk aimed to provide guidance to the staff on meeting the certification requirements based on Aqua Save evaluation criteria.

Sharing Session with Penang Green Council on AQUA SAVE AWARENESS EDUCATION PROGRAMME

On June 22, 2023, Water Watch Penang conducted a sharing session with the Penang Green Council on the ‘AQUA SAVE AWARENESS EDUCATION PROGRAMME FOR PENANG GREEN OFFICE CERTIFICATION.’

The Penang Green Council is one of WWP’s main partners and collaborators, and it is the main implementor of the Penang Green Office (PGO) Certification. PGO’s certification is conducted in conjunction with the Aqua Save Certification under PBAPP and the Penang State Government’s initiative to recognize industries and organizations that are dedicated to water conservation activities.

During this session, Water Watch Penang presented and discussed the awareness component as well as the water audit component based on the Aqua Save Criteria. The session was attended by a total of 15 staff members from the Penang Green Council, including the General Manager, Ms. Josephine.

The session also included calculations of water bills, ways to reduce water consumption, and a general discussion aimed at creating a water-saving society in Penang.

Water Watch Penang would like to express gratitude to the Penang Green Council and PBAPP for providing this opportunity to contribute to the public’s education regarding the Aqua Save Certification Programme.

Water Watch Penang – ‘Negalitres’ – ACS-USM STEM Water Education Programme at SMK St. Xavier (St Xavier’s Institution)

On June 21, 2023, a successful water/STEM education program was conducted at SMK St. Xavier (St. Xavier’s Institution). This collaborative initiative involved Water Watch Penang, the American Chemical Society USM Student Chapter (ACS USM), PBAPP, Intel Corporation, and CLEAN International.

The program comprised two sessions. First, Water Watch Penang delivered an awareness talk, followed by a hands-on learning session on water pollution and water treatment processes led by ACS USM.

During the awareness talk, Dr. Hong Chern Wern of Water Watch Penang provided an introduction to WWP’s history, goals, and previous activities. He discussed global, national, and local water crises, shared water facts, presented water conservation strategies, and addressed various water-related issues. Dr. Hong also reintroduced the “negalitres for schools” program to the students, as they are actively participating in water-saving initiatives.
