A new CSR Partnership between Water Watch Penang and Xylem Malaysia was forged in the year 2023. Xylem Malaysia is a smart water solution based in Kuala Lumpur with its head office in the USA. Via its CSR programme, Xylem Watermark, Water Watch Penang spearheaded the Water Wise Programme to educate students in Selangor and Penang with the involvement of Xylem staff as a volunteer.
A total of 348 students and 5 teachers were educated in this programme with the involvement of two schools in Selangor, and three schools in Penang.
Under the involvement of Penang Free School, SMK Jeram and SMK Sains Kuala Selangor, the modules involved were similar to the core programmes with the Xylem volunteers took their roles as facilitators in the water analysis sessions and presentations on water treatment processes. Those programmes were held in each respective school.
SMK Bukit Jambul’s programme was conducted in a similar manner as the three schools above with a discussion and presentation session by students on ways to save water. The students were guided by trained facilitators from Water Watch Penang and the presentation sessions were judged by Mr. Mohamad Hapiz B Mohd Rosli, Country Head of Xylem Water Solutions Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
SK Convent Pulau Tikus on the other hand, got to experience the programme at Waterfall river with the WWP trained facilitators involved in educating the students.
