Prof Chan Ngai Weng’s Daily Water Use

Prof Chan Ngai Weng’s Daily Water Use

The following diagram compares Prof Chan Ngai Weng’s Daily Water Use with that of people in other countries. Do you know how much is your daily water use? If you want to know, just divide your total household water use by the number of days in which the bill covers (some states such as Penang issue a bill once every 2 months, hence divide by 60 days. But if your state issues a water bill once a month, then divide it by 30 days), and further divide by the number of people in your household. If the water volume is in cubic meters, you can convert 1 cubic metre = 1000 litres.

Example:

Prof’s Chan Household Water Bill for July-August 2002 = 15600 litres (see Photo)

15600 litres divide by 60 days = 260 litres/day

260 litres divide by 2 persons = 130 litres/person/day (LPD)

For comparison: UNited Nations Standard = 165 LPD; Average Malaysia = 300 LPD; Urban Malaysian = > 500 LPD; Rural Malaysia = < 200 LPD; Average Indian (In India) = 100 LPD; Average African = 50 LPD; USA & Canada = > 800 LPD; Sinapore = 160 LPD.
