Water Watch Penang was one of the NGOs selected by YB Chow Kon Yeow and accepted by the Department of Environment to carry out an environmental awareness and education programme during Minggu Alam Sekitar 2008. This programme is sponsored by the Government via the Department of Environment (DOE). WWP’s programme includes teaching a group of students the physical, chemical and biological water monitoring techniques of river water quality. A group of selected students numbering 80 were taught various techniques of water quality monitoring and testing, carried out a river clean-up of the Sg Air Terjun and were taught various water treatment processes at the Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang’s Waterfall Treatment Plant, the oldest water treatment plant in Malaysia. The date was 25 October 2008. WWP members who led this programme were Prof Dr Chan Ngai Weng, Mr Hong Chern Wern, Miss Noor Asyhikin Abd Razak, Miss Chuah Chiew Yen and Miss Alia. The event was successfully carried out.
