The ‘NEGALITRES FOR SCHOOLS’ educational talk, organized by the Water Watch Penang (WWP), took place at SJK (T) Ramakrishna on the 5th of September, 2023, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The programme was attended by a total of 46 students from Standard 4 to Standard 6, accompanied by a teacher.
The session commenced with Dr. Hong Chern Wern, the Executive Manager of WWP, delivering a short introduction about Water Watch Penang and its overarching objectives, and provided an overview of the program’s past activities.
Next, trained facilitators, Ms. Naaga Lechume and Ms. Divya Sree, who are also interns at at WWP, conducted the session in Tamil. They explored critical topics related to water, starting with discussions on global, national, and local water crises, emphasizing the urgent need for water conservation. They also explained various innovative technologies and methods aimed at preserving water resources and also about the process of evaluating river water quality.
5th SEPTEMBER 2023 – Water Watch Penang (WWP) and The Habitat Foundation successfully held a river and water education programme for SMK Tanjong Bunga, Penang, in the Penang Botanical Gardens.
The Habitat Foundation arranged the educational activity as part of its Field Excursion for Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve (PHBR) Gateways, with support from CIMB Islamic. WWP was invited to lead an engaging and hands-on practical river activity to educate attendees on the global, regional, and local water crises, as well as the critical significance of rivers as a water resource.
A total of 26 students from Kelab Alam Sekitar of SMK Tanjong Bunga, as well as two teachers, took part in the program from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The program’s lead facilitator was WWP Executive Manager Dr. Hong Chern Wern, who was assisted by Mr. Hanson Yeoh, WWP’s Programme Officer, two interns, Ms. Khairul Barieyah and Ms. Tan Ying Sing, and trained facilitator, Mr. Sharvind, as well as The Habitat Foundation team members, Ms. Lingesh and Mr. Uzeir.
23 August 2023 – Water Watch Penang (WWP) successfully conducted the ‘Negalitres for Schools’ River and Water Education Programme for students from SJKC Chung Hwa 3, Butterworth, Penang on 23rd August 2023.
A group of 55 students, comprising both standard 4 and standard 5, along with 2 teachers, participated in the program from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.
WWP Program Officer, Mr. Hanson Yeoh, initiated the presentation by providing an overview of WWP’s background, objectives, and previous undertakings. He then delved into discussions about the global, national, and local water crises, methods for conserving water, innovative technologies for water preservation, and various topics linked to water resources.
On August 22, 2023, Water Watch Penang and Xylem SEA successfully collaborated on their second CSR program in Selangor, this time involving 60 Form 1 students from SM Sains Kuala Selangor. The program took place from 2:15 pm to 4:15 pm.
Mr. Mohamad Hapiz B Mohd Rosli, Country Head of Xylem Water Solutions Malaysia Sdn Bhd, delivered the opening remarks. As an alumnus of SM Sains Kuala Selangor, he also shared his educational and career journey, spanning from Malaysia to his decade-long experience in Japan, inspiring the students. The program then continued with an introduction to Xylem SEA and its core business by Ms. Alicia Rani Francis, Project Manager, followed by Ms. Mavinia Allagu, Engineer in Applications Engineering & Tender Support, South East Asia, and Xylem Malaysia Watermark Ambassador, who introduced Xylem Watermark and its CSR Program. Xylem Watermark’s motto, ‘Every Drop Counts’, aligns with Water Watch Penang’s motto.
On 21st August 2023, the second Xylem Watermark CSR Programme of the year took place in partnership with Xylem South East Asia at SMK Jeram, Selangor. This event followed the first Xylem Watermark CSR Programme held at Penang Free School on February 17, 2023. The programme, conducted in collaboration with WWP, lasted from 11 am to 1 pm and was attended by a total of 120 Form 2 students.
The programme began with a welcoming speech by the Chairperson of SMK Jeram’s education programme. Subsequently, En. Hapiz B Mohd Rosli, Country Head of Xylem Water Solutions Malaysia Sdn Bhd, delivered the opening speech. Mr. Ng Sek Hing, Sales Manager, introduced the main industries of Xylem in South East Asia, and Ms. Mavinia Allagu, an engineer in Applications Engineering & Tender Support for South East Asia and Xylem Watermark Ambassador, introduced Xylem’s CSR Programme, Xylem Watermark.
