“Climate change has crucially changed the availability, quantity and quality of global water supply and cycle which includes some of its significant effects such as longer drought period and heavier amount of rainfall”. An estimate of 1.2 billion people worldwide is unable to have access to clean and pure water. They must walk for miles in search of obtaining clean water. Freshwater is an irreplaceable substance which is a precious commodity and must be conserved as much as possible to ensure the abundant supply for everyone on Planet Earth, especially in the upcoming future.

Macroinvertebrates act as biological indicator – 9th September 2021

Macroinvertebrates are organisms that are large enough to be seen with the naked eye and lack a backbone which is invertebrate. They inhabit all types of running waters, from fast-flowing mountain streams to slow-moving muddy rivers. Examples of aquatic macroinvertebrates include insects in their larval or nymph form, mussels, snails, and worms. They are commonly found attached to submerged rocks, logs, and vegetation.

Kawasan Tadahan Hujan Ulu Muda- 9 September 2021

Ulu Muda merupakan sebuah kawasan tadahan yang sangat penting bagi penduduk negeri Kedah, Pulau Pinang dan Perlis. Kompleks Hutan Ulu Muda (Ulu Muda) meliputi kawasan seluas 163,000 hektar dan kawasan tadahan air untuk Empangan Muda mengalir ke Sungai Muda di selatan dan Empangan Pedu dan Ahning yang mengalir ke Sungai Kedah di utara.  Hutan Simpan Ulu Muda yang terletak di utara Semenanjung tanah air yang merupakan kawasan tadahan air terbesar bagi mengisi tiga empangan buatan manusia yang utama iaitu Empangan Ahning, Empangan Muda dan Empangan Pedu. Empangan ini sangat penting untuk penanaman padi dan penggunaan domestic serta industri. Kawasan tadahan ulu muda sangat penting untuk dipelihara demi keselamatan air terutama pada musim kering setiap tahun. Air hujan dari Ulu Muda juga membolehkan Kedah berfungsi dengan berkesan sebagai “Jelapang Padi Malaysia”, dengan itu memastikan jaminan makanan untuk negara ini.
