RIVER AND WATER EDUCATION PROGRAMME FOR SJKC POI ENG PENANG

29th JULY 2023 – Water Watch Penang (WWP) successfully conducted a river and water education programme for SJKC Poi Eng Penang at the Penang Botanic Gardens on 29th July 2023. SJKC Poi Eng is also one of the registered schools under the Negalitres for Schools Programme.

The education programme was an interactive and hands-on practical river activity which aims to educate the participants about the water crisis on a global, regional, and local level, and the essential role of rivers as one of the water resources.

RIVER AND WATER EDUCATION PROGRAMME FOR SMK AIR ITAM PENANG IN COLLABORATION WITH THE HABITAT FOUNDATION

27th JULY 2023 – Water Watch Penang (WWP) in collaboration with The Habitat Foundation successfully conducted a river and water education programme for SMK Air Itam Penang at the Penang Botanic Gardens on 27th July 2023.

The education programme was organised by The Habitat Foundation as part of their Field Excursion for Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve (PHBR) Gateways with support from CIMB Islamic. WWP was invited to conduct an interactive and hands-on practical river activity which aims to educate the participants about the water crisis on a global, regional, and local level, and the essential role of rivers as one of the water resources.

‘NEGALITRES FOR SCHOOLS’: RIVER AND WATER EDUCATION PROGRAMME AT SMK CONVENT BUTTERWORTH

26 JULY 2023 – Water Watch Penang (WWP) successfully conducted the ‘Negalitres for Schools’ River and Water Education Programme for students from SMK CONVENT BUTTERWORTH on 26th July 2023. 

A total of 40 students ranging from Form 1 to Form 5 and a teacher attended this programme from 12.00 pm to 1.30 pm.

The programme commenced with reintroduction of the Negalitres Programme for Schools, to the students and the objectives of this programme. Dr. Hong also introducing WWP’s past and upcoming activities of WWP. Next, as part of awareness raising initiatives, he also presented on the global, national, and local water crisis, water facts, water conservation strategies, and other water-related issues. The programme also included an activity where the students learned how to calculate the daily water consumption per person per day based on PBAPP’s water bill.

Workshop on Nature-based solutions (NbS): Bridging the knowledge gap – 24th to 25th July 2023

A Nature-based solutions (NbS): Bridging the knowledge gap workshop was organized by WWF-Malaysia and Wetlands International Malaysia from the 24-25th of July 2023 at REDAC and the Bukit Jawi Gold Resort.

Water Watch Penang, as one of the partners of WWF-Malaysia for this workshop, were represented by Prof. Dr. Chan Ngai Weng, the President of WWP and Dr. Chee Su Yin, one of the committee members of WWP.

Double Negalitres for Schools Programme – 20th to 22nd July 2023

22 JULY 2023 – This week marks two education session under the Negalitres for Schools Programme conducted by Water Watch Penang.

The first education session was conducted at SK St. Mark on the 20th July 2023, attended by a total of 33 students from Standard 6 together with 3 teachers, while the second education session was conducted at SMK Datuk Hj. Mohd. Nor Ahmad on the 22nd July 2023 attended by a total number of 42 students and 3 teachers from the Eco Team.

As usual, WWP Executive Manager Dr Hong Chern Wern commenced the talk by introducing WWP’s history, goals, and past activities. He also presented some water facts, the global, national and local water crisis, water conservation strategies, and other water-related issues.
