Happy World Water Day 2021!!! Malaysia celebrated the World Water Day nationwide with various awareness raising, sharing sessions, webinars and so forth to create awareness while at the same time hope that Malaysians will ‘Value Water’ and be a water saving society.
The President of Water Watch Penang, Prof. Dr. Chan Ngai Weng was one of the panellists discussing and presenting water topics on ‘Balancing the Social, Economic, and Environmental Values of Water: Learning from the Past to add Resilience to Our Future.
Attended by at least 50 participants via Zoom and Youtube live, the discussion session was also joint by other water experts, Dato Ir. Alice Jawan Empaling (Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Utilities Sarawak, and Tan Sri Dato’ Ir. Syed Muhammad Shahabudin (Chairman of SMHB Sdn. Bhd. moderated by Datuk IR. Abdul Kadir Mohd Din, FASc (President of The Malaysian Water Association).

WORLD WATER DAY 2021 TO BE CELEBRATED WITH THEME “VALUING WATER’ TODAY
Today is a special day when the whole world celebrates World Water Day. As the only “True” water NGO in Malaysia (Water Watch Penang works on water issues only and nothing else), we join all other organisations in the world to celebrate International World Water Day with this year’s theme “Valuing Water”. Water is life, without which there is no life! Yet water is the most undervalued, abused, wasted and “taken for granted” resource by humans! The Paradox of Value, also known as the Diamond–Water Paradox is the apparent contradiction that, although WATER is on the whole more useful, in terms of survival, than diamonds, DIAMONDS command a much higher price in the market.

In conjunction of World Water Day 2021, students from 5 secondary schools in Klang Valley participated in a forum/video presentation as a pre-warmup to the Phase 2 Water Genius Challenge. The students demonstrated their talent in producing short video and oral presentations focusing on this year’s theme, ‘Valuing Water’ by explaining ‘What Does Water Mean to You?’.
