Eco Hackathon with LAM Research – 16th and 23rd Jan 2025

On January 16th and 23rd, Water Watch Penang (WWP) had the privilege of being invited by LAM Research to participate in the Eco Hackathon, an event aimed at generating innovative solutions for environmental sustainability in LAM Research. Ms. Jane, the LAM Research’s ESG Director officially launched the Eco Hackathon with an inspiring opening speech, setting the tone for an event focused on sustainability and innovative problem-solving. She highlighted the importance of addressing global environmental challenges and encouraged participants to think creatively and collaboratively throughout the program.

The workshop centered around four key themes: energy, water, waste, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. As part of the program, Water Watch Penang was tasked with supporting the water team in brainstorming and developing innovative ideas to improve water efficiency and recycling. Through collaborative discussions, the team worked diligently to propose actionable solutions aligned with the event’s goals.

On the second day (the following week), each four working groups presented with their three top ideas to the audience. The water team dubbed as the ‘Water Warrior’ led by Mr Teoh JianWei presented on the targets included achieving 10% recycled water and improving water efficiency by 2% in Lam Research. The water team was announced as the winner for their innovative ideas, showcasing the importance of sustainable water practices.

The recognition and partnership with LAM Research reinforces WWP’s commitment to promote water sustainability and inspiring others to take action.
