25 May 2022: Water Watch Penang has conduct a face-to-face programme for secondary school students at SMJK Heng Hee.

The programme was attended by a total of 36 participants (Form 3) and the facilitator involved in giving a talk was Dr Hong Chern Wern, from Water Watch Penang assisted by Comms Intern, Ms. Nursyazana.

The objective of the programme was intended to expose students to the importance of proper water consumption, followed by water issues that are happening around the world, including in Malaysia. The programme also reveals local water issues, river and water monitoring and evaluation, and ways to save water in Penang. If water consumption is not controlled, it may lead to higher consumption, future demands, and many more.

Moreover, the programme also conducts classroom activities for students, where they have to bring their own water bills and calculate how many litres they have been using, with the aim of enabling them to know their own daily water consumption. The response to this water education programme from students was very positive, as they really enjoyed and and gain new knowledge that they do not before this. This educational water programme have revealed to them the water problems we are facing and told them how to use water wisely.
