16th April 2022: Water Watch Penang has conducted a water education talk on ‘Negalitres For Schools Programmes, River and Water Education Programme’ for primary school students in Penang via Zoom.
The programme was attended by a total of 14 participants from SJKC Union (2 teachers and 12 students), and the facilitator involved in giving a talk that day was Dr Hong Chern Wern, from Water Watch Penang.
The objectives of the programme were to expose students to the importance of proper water conservation, followed by water issues that are happening around the world, including in Malaysia. The topics covered during the talk included the introduction to Water Watch Penang, global, national, and local water issues, river and water monitoring and assessment, and how to save water, which was divided into two topics: water conservation and ways to save water at school and at home. Moreover, the programme also conducted classroom activities for students, such as how to use the PBAPP water-saving kit and reading water bills. At the end of the talk, steps towards water savings were shared with everyone, with the hope that everyone would take action to reduce their water consumption.
