22nd March 2022: Official Launching Ceremony of ‘Negalitres For Schools’ Programme by the Honorable Chief Minister of Penang, YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow.

In conjunction of World Water Day Celebration, Water Watch Penang has successfully organised the official launching ceremony of ‘Negalitres For Schools’ Programme today at Auditorium A, KOMTAR, Penang.

The programme was launched by the Honorable Chief Minister of Penang, YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow together with the presence and support by our stakeholders, Puan Roshana Mohd Ali, Setiausaha Bahagian, Ministry of Water and Environment (KASA), Ms. Teh, representative from Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang, Encik Mohd. Syukri bin Said, Pemangku Pengarah Kejuruteraan from Majlis Bandaraya Seberang Perai, Mr. Chen Thean Hock, Penolong Pengarah from Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri Pulau Pinang, Dato’ Ir. Jaseni bin Maidinsa, the CEO of Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP), Ms. Josephine Tan Mei Ling, the General Manager of Penang Green Council (PGC) and Cik Fasya Abdul Hamid, the Vice President of Green Educators Workgroup (GREW) with the presence of Prof. Dr. Chan Ngai Weng, the President of Water Watch Penang / representative of School of Humanities, University Sains Malaysia. This programme, brought to you by CLEAN International and Intel Corporation and coordinated by Water Watch Penang, has also seen speeches by invited VIPs including a pre-recorded speech by the President of CLEAN International, Ms. Heather Baker. This programme is also the first in Malaysia and South East Asia.

The ‘Negalitres for School’ is a water demand management project targeting 100 national schools in Penang over three years (a minimum of 34 schools per year) that involves installation of water saving equipment and education programme with the aim to reduce water consumption, thus ‘negative’ litre.

To date, a total of 40 national schools in Penang have registered for this free and beneficial programme. Water Watch Penang, again would like to thank all the partners, supporters, involved members and volunteers of Water Watch Penang for the successful launching of this programme.
