Workshop on Emerging Water Pollutants in River and Coastal Environment – 2nd July 2021 (English-BM Report)

A workshop was successfully conducted, themed “Emerging Water Pollutants in River and Coastal Environment”, with at least 100 participants via zoom and Facebook live platform, with about 400 views through Facebook live streaming. This workshop was hosted by Water Watch Penang in partnership with School of Chemical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia, with Dr. Oh Wen-Da as the coordinator of the event.

In order to increase the awareness of public on the emerging water pollutants in river and coastal environment, three speakers were invited to share about the current national and global issues, and the role of individuals in protecting the environment. The first speaker, Mr. Muhammad Azroie bin Mohamed Yusoff from National Hydraulic Research Institute of Malaysia (NAHRIM) shared about the “Current River Water Pollution Crisis in Malaysia”; our second speaker, Dr. Summiyah Sabar from Pusat Pengajian Jarak Jauh (PPJJ, USM) discussed about the “Emerging
River Water Pollutants”; while the last speaker, Dr. Annette Jaya Ram from Centre for Marine and Coastal Studies (CEMACS, USM) introduced to the audience regarding the “Plastic Pollution in Coastal Environment”.

After the information sharing by the speakers, a 35-minute time was allocated for the panel discussion session. The audience were welcomed to drop any question or raised any issue for further discussion between panels.

Bengkel ‘Kemunculan Bahan Pencemar di Sungai dan Persekitaran Pantai’ – 2nd July 2021

Bengkel bertemakan ‘Kemunculan Bahan Pencemar di Sungai dan Persekitaran Pantai’ telah berjaya dilaksanakan. Seramai 100 orang peserta telah menghadiri bengkel tersebut secara maya melalui aplikasi Zoom dan ‘Facebook Live’ dan meraih hampir 400 tontonan melalui siaran langsung Facebook.

Bengkel in dianjurkan oleh Water Watch Penang dengan kerjasama Pusat Pengajian Sains Kimia, Universiti Sains Malaysia dan menyaksikan Dr Oh Wen-Da sebagai penyelaras.

Tiga orang penceramah telah dijemput untuk berkongsi pengetahuan mengenai isu semasa, isu global dan juga peranan setiap individu dalam melestarikan alam sekitar untuk meningkatkan tahap kesedaran terhadap kemunculan bahan pencemar di sungai dan persekitaran pantai. Penceramah pertama iaitu Encik Muhammad Azroie bin Mohamed Yusoff dari Institut Penyelidikan Air Kebangsaan Malaysia (NAHRIM) menjelaskan berkenaan ‘Krisis Semasa Pencemaran Sungai di Malaysia’. Seterusnya, penceramah kedua iaitu Dr. Summiyah Sabar dari Pusat Pengajian Jarak Jauh (PPJJ) berkongsi isu ‘Kemunculan Bahan Pencemar Sungai’ manakala penceramah terakhir iaitu Dr.Annette Jaya Ram dari Pusat Pengajian Samudera dan Pantai (CEMACS,USM) memperkenalkan para peserta mengenai ‘Pencemaran Plastik di Persekitaran Pantai’.

Setelah sesi perkongsian tamat, selama 35 minit masa diperuntukkan untuk sesi perbincangan bersama-sama dengan penceramah. Para tetamu dijemput untuk bertanyakan soalan ataupun mengemukakan isu untuk perbincangan lanjut antara penceramah.
