World Water Day 2006

“World Water Day Celebrations, 2 April 2006”. Organised jointly by WWP together with PBAPP Sdn Bhd, Rotary Club of Penang & Avago Technologies on 2 April 2006, in Penang Youth Park. Appendix A shows the figures. total number of schools involved is 99, total number of students involved is 217; total number of teachers involved is 20. estimated total number of accompanying parents is 70 and total number of members of the public attending is more than 200. a total of 12 organizations put up booths during this event to increase public awareness about water and related issues. The event was officiated by YAB Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, Chief Minister of Penang. In addition, Dato Ir Liew Chook San (General Manager of PBAPP Sdn Bhd), Dr Khoo Boo Khean (District Governor of Rotary Club, Ampang), Dr Danesh (President of Rotary Club of Penang), Encik Hassan Bin Husin (representing Avago Technologies), Dato Lee Yow Ching, Ir Jaseni Maidinsa (Development manager of PBAPP Sdn Bhd), Dato Dr Anwar Fazal (Advisor of WWP), Ir Teoh (Drainage and Irrigation Department of Penang State), Mr Ooi Chin Loo (MPPP), Encik Kitob (JBA), other VIPs, other PBAPP Sdn Bhd officers & the public also graced the event. Many activities were organised throughout the day, including the opening ceremony, declaration of World Water Day by YAB, speeches by YAB & Prof Chan Ngai Weng (President of WWP), press conference with members of the press, water quizzes, water painting competitions, prize giving by YAB, water exhibitions and water guessing competitions and visits to waterfall treatment plant. the total number of people attending is officially noted at 498 but those that did not register may be around 200 to 300. altogether, it is estimated that at least 900 people attended this event. in addition, the PBAPP Sdn Bhd’s waterfall treatment plant was also open to the public. it is estimated that at least 100 people of so visited the plant.
