World Water Day 20 April 2008 at Penang Botanic Gardens

WWP organised World Water Day - Penang State Level Celebrations on 20 April 2008 at the Penang Boatnic Gardens. The event was officiated by the Honourable Chief Minister of Penang YAB Tuan Lim Guan Eng. Other VIPs include YB Lim Hock Seng (Penang EXCO for Infrastructure), Y.Bhg. Dato' Dr Anwar Fazal (WWP Advisor), Y.Bhg. Dato Suppiah Binti Md. Yusoff (Penang State Treasury Officer), Y.Bhg. Dato Dr Lee Yow Ching (Ex-Penang Water Department Head), Y.Bhg. Ir Jaseni Maidinsa (PBA General Manager), Datin Tengku Idaura (Chairperson of Friends of Penang Botanic Gardens, Datin Zaini (USM), Mr Muniandy (Assistant Head of DOE), and others. A World Water Day Talent Competition was advertised but there were no takers (see brochure below). However, the painting competition saw a total of 250 competitions in 5 categories taking part. Accompanying these competitors were another 250 odd parents and teachers. Total staff of WWP and PBA, staff of other exhibitors (SPAN, Forestry Department, Malaysian Nature Society Penang Branch, PEWOG, Regional Centre of Expertise Penang, USM School of Biological Sciences, Department of Environment Penang State) was about 100 people. It was estimated that the total number of public people attending was about 200. There were also about 100 people or so visiting the PBA Waterfall Treatment Plant inside the gardens. Overall, the event was a great success (see photos below).
