Smart Partnerships between Businesses & WWP
How your organisation/company can form Partnerships with us
One CEO once came up to me and said "My company sells water. I must be crazy to form any sort of partnerships with Water Watch Penang as getting consumers to save water means reducing my profits!" I said "True! But don't forget that your company needs responsible consumers. If all your consumers are irresponsible and use water like there is no tomorrow, then when El Nino strikes or there is a prolonged drought, they will use up all your water and create a "Water Crisis". If a water crisis happens, who do you think the government & the public will point their fingers at? More importantly, do you want your company to be seen as socially and environmentally irresponsible? Partnering Water Watch Penang will give your company credibility in terms of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Such a partnership will also help your company a long way towards achieving ISO14,001 Certification. It also enhances your company's green image. So, are you going to sit there, just let your own inhouse SHE or HR or PR departments handle this important issue or just close one eye and ignore your company's social and environmental responsibility?" In the 21st century, businesses and companies cannot operate like they did a century ago. Profits must now go hand in hand with social and environmental responsibility. If your company is responsible on all fronts, your products will become more acceptable locally and globally (for e.g. timber produced unsustainably without the sanction of the International Timber Council (ITC) will not be accepted in most developed countries now. Eventually, if your company carries on like this, the chances of it going down is high. Why take such risks when there is such a good alternative that makes your company acceptable, responsible and even more profitable in the long run? There are many ways your compnay can help, either directly or indirectly, in cash or in kind, or by small changes in your employees lifestyle. Help us change the world for the better via the following ways:
(i) If you choose to contribute to our activities (for example support our schools programme whereby we educate school children on the importance of water & water conservation), you can send us a check (written out to Water Watch Penang) to our address at 10 Brown Road 10350 Penang. When we organise the activity, your company's name will be splashed all over the newspapers as our sponsor. We will have banners (with your company's logo & name) all over Penang advertising the activity. The mileage your company gains is tremendous. You can either choose to sponsor a fixed amount annually (for example RM1,000.00 or more), or sponsor event by event. We will give you a budget estimate if you decide to sponsor by event.
(ii) Sign up to be our Corporate Member. Entrance fee is RM1000 & Annual fee RM1200 (RM100 a month). This small amount will help us build up our membership base and make our voice stronger when we negotiate with the government or private water companies (in terms of water tariffs, new water schemes, water quality, water pollution, etc). Go back to our Home Page and download the membership form. Fill it in and send it back to us (10 Brown Road 10350 Penang) by post & write out your check of RM2200 (Entrance fee + annual fee). As a Corporate Member, your company will receive our bi-monthly newsletter informing you of upcoming activities and current events related to water, your employees will be entitled to discounts on nature trips organised by us (e.g. Taman Negara trip, Visit Waterfall Treatment Plant & view majestic waterfall, hiking up Penang Hill, camping at the Penang National Park at Pantai Kerachut, etc). We will do special activities with your company, for e.g. during your annual SHE Week, we will come and run activities, give talks, demonstrations, etc. In short, we will save you and your SHE, HR and PR departments a lot of hassle as we run the entire show for you. You tell us what you want & we will deliver.
(iii) Send us your employees to be "Volunteers" in our many activities. Whenever you see an upcoming event, email us to indicate that your company can help.
(iv) Donations of any amount will be graciously accepted. Send us a check (written out to Water Watch Penang) to our address at 10 Brown Road 10350 Penang.
(v) Be a "Water-Friendly" company by reducing water use. Your employees cannot reduce the minimum amount of water you drink (at least 8 cups a day) but they can reduce the amount of water used for washing, flushing toilets, showering, etc. For e.g., your company can change all taps in your building into automatic taps, replace all flush cisterns in WCs with "Dual-Flush Systems" (one button for defecating & the other for urinating). Your company can start a Flush Once Less Per Day Campaign. This is easy: Send a circular (From the CEO) to tell your employees to do so. Most people flush the toilet (every flush uses 9 litres of water for the conventional WC) whenever they urinate. This is not necessary at all. Flush only when it becomes smelly. Urine only becomes smelly after a few hours & when it is concentrated. You can flush once after two visits to the toilet to urinate. This saves water. Put some pandan leaves in the toilet to reduce the smell. But if you defecate, you have to flush. A note of caution - always put hygiene & health first, you must not save water to the extreme. For all male toilets, install urinals that has the push button for flushing water after urinating. Never have the automatic flushing system for urinals.
