Salcon Berhad-Water Watch Penang-Malaysian Water Partnership Inter-School Water Quiz Competition

3rd November 2012

Venue: Monash University, Sunway Campus

The inaugural Salcon River and Water Awareness Inter-State Water Quiz Competition was held on the 3rd of November 2012. The quiz was co-organised by Water Watch Penang (WWP), Malaysian Water Partnership (MyWP) and Salcon Berhad with the financial support of Salcon Berhad. The quiz was held at the huge auditorium of Monash University in Sunway Campus and was participated by standard 6 students from 12 primary schools from Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

The event was officiated by the Division Directors (Water Resources and Hydrology) of Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Malaysia, Dato’ Ir. Hj Hanapi bin Mohamad Noor.

The quiz was divided into three sections, Global, National and Local section whereby the students were tested on water related issues such as water pollution, water scarcity, water geography and so forth. To make the quiz look more interesting, questions on Salcon Berhard company profile and Water Watch Penang were also included. The quiz was divided into three rounds whereby the first 6 schools will start the round 1 followed by the remaining 6 schools) the top 3 schools from every section will proceed to the final at round 3. The top 3 schools which have emerged as the winner in the final round were:

1. SJK  (C) Puay Chai 2
2. SJK (C) Connaught 2
3. SJK (T) Effingham

Though more schools were expected to participate in this event, the quiz was organized successfully and the participants together with the audiences have inquired new knowledge and more awareness on the water issues in the world and Malaysia.
