PRODUCTION OF A VCD ON RIVER CONSERVATION


The primary objective of is to produce a VCD on river & water conservation, viz. How students can carry out activities towards the protection and conservation of their rivers. The river that is used as the model is the Sungai Pinang, one of the dirtiest rivers in the country. This project will use teachers & school children (primary & secondary) as the actors. An experienced video person will be employed to do the filming. The script will be written by WWP. The VCD will carry messages of awareness, education & action on the importance of river conservation. The finished product (VCD) will be given out to schools, resident associations, non-governmental organisations, government departments and other bodies involved in river management and conservation.

CONTENTS OF VCD:


LENGTH OF VCD = APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES
Scene (1) – Brief Introduction of WWP, the aims of the VCD & its Sponsors by Prof. Chan Ngai Weng (2 minutes)
Scene (2) – Brief interesting facts on water (e.g. Elkan VCD) – Narration by Dr Hajar Abd Rahim (2 minutes)
Scene (3) – Brief Introduction of Earth as the Blue Planet (Photo of Earth as a rotating blue planet), Volume of water on Earth & Volume of Freshwater on Earth (Table & Graph with figures are shown), The Hydrological Cycle (Animation of the Hydrological Cycle is shown), & water problems faced by people in the world (Photos of each problem is shown)– Narration by Dr. Hajar Abd Rahim (3 minutes)
Scene (4) – Scenes of pristine waters of Sg Air Terjun, then Prof. Chan explains about the importance of rivers (1 minute); Prof. Chan & the students monitor river water quality, and students doing river clean-up (2 minutes).
Scene (5) – How water is treated & brought to your tap – Scenes of the Waterfall Treatment Plant, Waterfall inside the treatment plant and Diagram showing the water treatment process - Narration by Dr Hajar Abd Rahim (3 minutes)
Scene (6) – “Sg Pinang – a dying river” by Prof. Chan Ngai Weng (Show video scenes captured in the Sg Pinang estuary where the river is polluted. Prof. Chan explains why a pristine river can deteriorate to such a polluted degree is explained (3 minutes).
Scene (7) – Interviews with students about the River and Water Conservation Programme (2 minutes)
Scene (8) – Water Quiz to test how much students have learnt - by Prof. Chan Ngai eng (2 minutes)
