JPS-WWP-PBA-N_Park Water Awareness Programme in Penang National Park (PNP) 9 Oct 2010 - A total of 80 students and 4 Facilitators will experience the thrill of Penang National Park on this day. They will be taught the importance of gazettement of parks as a legal tool in forest and water catchment conservation, as well as conservation of biodiversity. They will also learn about the importance of rivers, lakes and groundwater as sources of water supply. They will be taught the methods of monitoring and testing water quality based on Physical, Chemical and Biological assessment at Sg Tukun inside the PNP. They will then exsperience the thrill of walking on the park's canopy walkway looking down from tree tops. They then hike to Pantai Kerachut to savour and enjoy the pristine beach as well as see the meromictic lake, the only one in Penang and one of its kind in the country. Then they visit the turtle hatchery in the park, learning about conservation of the endangered turtles of various species. The group will break up into discussion groups and propose ways of helping to conserve the park. Then they will take a boat ride back from Pantai Kerachut to Teluk Bahang jetty to mark the end of the programme.
